# Learn math from your handwritten work with an AI tutor

Use a phone camera or webcam when your work changes as you solve a problem. Write one new line, request a still, and have the tutor check its transcription before discussing the math. Then try one hinted next step and capture the changed work for another checkpoint. The value is feedback tied to the path you take, rather than an answer to a static worksheet.

## Set up a readable checkpoint

Place the paper on a flat, well-lit surface and aim the phone or webcam from above. Keep your hand clear, avoid shadows and glare, and make the current line large enough to distinguish. Frame the original problem and previous line with the latest work. For a whiteboard, include the relevant diagram and labels.

Tell the tutor the problem and the step you just wrote. Ask it to transcribe the line first, especially when it contains fractions, exponents, minus signs, decimal points, units, or similar-looking symbols. Confirm any ambiguous symbol in text before relying on the explanation. A photo is a visual checkpoint, not a dependable way to enter exact notation.

## Use a hint to make the next move

Ask for one question or hint at a time, and ask the tutor to wait while you try it. If the problem is 2x + 3 = 11 and you write 2x = 14, a useful response is: “What operation did you apply to the left side? What same operation should apply to both sides?” This points back to equality without giving the answer. After you correct or extend the work, request another still and check its transcription before asking about the next step.

If you erase or cover earlier lines, describe what changed. Check the algebra yourself and decide whether the reasoning makes sense.

## Choose images for evolving work

A saved worksheet, typed equation, or PDF is simpler when the problem is static and you only need an explanation. A camera becomes useful when your handwritten solution changes and you want feedback tied to a particular line. For graphs or whiteboard diagrams, show labeled axes, units, and the part you are discussing; type exact coordinates or measurements when precision matters.

This is a request-and-response loop with still images. The tutor does not watch your writing as it happens or poll the camera between your requests. If a voice conversation is available in the same session and supports MCP image tools, you can choose to speak while requesting a still; do not assume audio capture or automatic camera access.

## Keep your own record of the reasoning

Write down a useful question and your next attempt. If a line is hard to read, retake the image or type the notation exactly. Ask for a reasoning check against the original equation when finished, and use course materials or an instructor to resolve disagreements. Confirm uncertain symbols before relying on the feedback.

## Prompt to adapt

> I am working on 2x + 3 = 11. Take one still of my latest handwritten line and first transcribe it exactly, including signs, exponents, fractions, and units. Ask me to confirm anything ambiguous. Then give one question or hint about my next step, without solving the rest of the problem. Wait while I try it; after I write a new line, I will request another still.

## Set up without starting a capture

[Set up your MCP client](https://letitsee.com/for-agents) with the full tool reference. The separate [capture page](https://letitsee.com/live) can replace the active capture page for your account. It does not take a photo by itself.
