Use a USB microscope with an MCP assistant

Read as Markdown

A USB microscope can show a close-up in an assistant conversation if it exposes a standard webcam feed to your browser. LetItSee does not control proprietary microscope software or promise a magnification or measurement.

Confirm the microscope appears as a camera

The microscope must expose a standard webcam feed recognized by your browser. Connect it to the computer and check whether it appears in the browser's camera selector. If the device requires only a proprietary viewing application and is absent from that selector, it is not available to this capture page through the supported camera path. Check the device and browser documentation for compatibility before relying on it.

You also need a browser with camera support over HTTPS and an AI client that supports remote MCP, Streamable HTTP, OAuth sign-in, and image results. Add https://letitsee.com/mcp in the client and complete sign-in and consent. Remember the account used: the browser page must be signed into the same account for the assistant to receive its requested images.

Set up a stable close-up

Open the camera page only when you are ready to select the microscope. Sign in with the same account, choose Use camera, grant browser permission, and select the microscope feed in the camera selector. Confirm that its preview shows the specimen before asking the assistant to capture it.

Secure the microscope and sample so the view does not move while you adjust the device's own focus, working distance, or illumination. Those controls belong to your hardware or its supported software; LetItSee does not invent or promise microscope-specific controls. Reduce reflections, keep the area of interest in focus, and leave surrounding context visible when it helps explain orientation. Then request one fresh image and ask a narrow question about visible details.

Troubleshooting compatibility and image quality

If the microscope is missing from the selector, verify the cable and operating-system recognition, close applications that may hold the device, and reload only if you are prepared to choose the source again. If it appears but the preview is black or frozen, check the microscope's own power, illumination, and focus, then verify its feed outside LetItSee. A soft image often needs a better working distance or focus; a washed-out image may need less illumination. The assistant can interpret only the pixels in the requested still.

Example prompt and limitations

This setup delivers requested still photos, not a live stream, measurement instrument, or microscope control panel. It does not provide OCR or image recognition itself; your assistant interprets the returned image. Do not use a visual guess as proof of electrical safety or a precise measurement. Only requested images are sent to your AI client; consult the privacy policy for handling and retention information.

Set up without starting a capture

Set up your MCP client with the full tool reference. The separate capture page can replace the active capture page for your account. It does not take a photo by itself. When your source is ready, try:

Take one close-up photo of this circuit-board connector. Describe the visible pin layout, and mark anything that is too blurry to judge.
